When the water in your pipes freezes it expands. This can interfere with your water consumption, but more importantly it puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on your pipes.
The pipes in most Irish homes are extremely inflexible. Oftentimes they are unable to cope with the extra pressure, bursting, and leaving you with an endless list of problems to solve.
So, how can you prevent this?
We often see tips, tricks and myths online, but which ones actually work?
Recently Richard Burke of the Heating & Plumbing Association of Ireland advised the people of Ireland not to leave the water running. It can lead to the freezing of water in your drains instead.
Furthermore, this won't stop the water in the pipes outside your house from freezing. The depth of those pipes will decide whether or not the water will freeze.
The solution!
The advice given was to just leave the heating running, even on low. This should prevent any pipes in your home from freezing over.
